Event
2006 October 19, Thursday, 7pm — Misty Valley
Books, Chester, Vermont (presentation by Donna Monahan)
Enjoying the Fall Sky
Donna Monahan — a local amateur astronomer — will be
describing how to identify Fall Constellations, and locate within them,
popular celestial objects, using your naked eyes, or a pair of binoculars.
She will also discuss meteor showers that you can observe from a dark
location — several of which will be visible in the coming weeks
— with just a lawn chair and blanket... ! She will explain when and
where to look for satellites, which are often mistaken as unidentified
flying objects. We will discuss several other types of interesting objects
you can see in the skies from here, above Southern Vermont. Handouts, with
follow-up information, such as reading lists and web sites you can
consult, will be free for your taking at the presentation.
The presentation will be on Thursday, the 19th of October at "Misty Valley
Books" in Chester, Vermont, beginning at 7PM, and run for around 1 hour.
It is free, but we request that you RSVP just to help us know how many are
coming, as seating is limited. Do dress warmly. If the skies cooperate,
you may want to join us afterwards outside to look at some of the objects
described, as we may have a telescope or two set up. Other members of
SoVerA will be present to answer any questions you may have about
astronomy.
SoVerA is an astronomy education + outreach organization composed of
amateur & professional astronomers, educators, students and members of the
lay public. We are dedicated to making astronomy much more accessible to
all. Talks and presentations are held in venues throughout the Southern
Vermont region on the third Thursday of every month, with observing
afterwards, sky conditions permitting. All are welcome. More information
may be found at: www.sovera.org
