Event
2007 February 15, Thursday, 7:00pm —
Misty Valley Books, Chester, Vermont (presentation by John Thorstensen,
Dartmouth College)
Stardust Memories
The Southern Vermont Astronomy Group (SoVerA) this month will host a talk
on how our existence is the product of a series of critical stellar
events. Parents, next time your small child asks where they came from,
this explanation will get you off the hook...
As Joni Mitchell observed, "We are stardust". In this talk Dartmouth
Professor John Thorstensen will explain how this is literally true -- even
the most mundane aspects of our existence depend on events that occurred
billions of years ago in the unimaginably hot and dense interiors of
stars. No astronomy or science knowledge is required.
The SoVerA Public Presentations are held on the 3rd Thursday of each
month. This talk will be held at 7:00PM, on the 15th of February, at Misty
Valley Book Store, in Chester. Telescopes will be set up outside
afterwards, sky conditions permitting, and the pubic will be able to look
at some of the universe' most beautiful objects. Handouts and other
information will also be made available to attendees. All is free to the
public, but please RSVP as seating is limited! Call Misty Valley Books:

The Southern Vermont Astronomy Group (SoVerA) is an astronomy education +
outreach organization composed of amateur & professional astronomers,
educators, students and members of the lay public. We are dedicated to
making astronomy much more accessible to all, as well as offering
opportunities to conduct more involved astronomy projects. Talks and
presentations are held in venues throughout the Southern Vermont region on
the third Thursday of every month, with observing afterwards, sky
conditions permitting. All are welcome. More information may be found at:
