Event
2007 July 19, Thursday, 8:00pm —
Skinner Library, Manchester, Vermont (presentation by Cathy Stewart and
Tom Bourgeois)
(Real) Sounds of Space
Two of our own stalwart members, Cathy Stewart and Tom Bourgeois, will
present again that great talk they did last year on some of the creepiest
sounds heard in space, generated by stars, planets and other more
mysterious sources. This event is free to the public and will be held at
8:00 PM in the lower level of the Skinner Library in Manchester on
Thursday, the 19th of July. It is presented by the Southern Vermont
Astronomy Group (SoVerA)
These sounds will be accompanied by extraordinary images of the sources
themselves as provided by NASA/JPL and other space borne and ground based
observatories. The combination of sights and sounds will be accompanied
by explanations of the phenomena, their origins and probable and possible
causes.
SoVerA is an organization composed of amateur and professional
astronomers, educators, students and members of the lay public. They are
dedicated to making astronomy much more accessible to all. Beyond
astronomical events, talks and presentations are held in venues throughout
the southern Vermont region on the third Thursday of every month, with
observing afterwards if sky conditions permit. More information may be
found at: www.sovera.org or by calling
802-362-2713.
